Mindful development matters.
“Hey, everybody. It’s Pete from Blacksburg Bagels. Also that guy Pete Macedo who’s running for mayor of Blacksburg. And I wanted to talk a little bit about development.
I’m not anti-development. I just think we should be more mindful of the type of development that we’re doing.
I’m here at the site of the Roanoke/Lee Street project where here up on Prospect Street, a number of homes were created specifically for people who are in lower income brackets. It also provided funding for folks who already own homes on Roanoke and Lee Street to fix up their homes like these over here. And for folks who were renting to people or agreed to rent to folks who are in a lower income bracket, they got those same funds.
This is a project that I think we should be proud of and we absolutely were celebrated about it because we received a gold medal award, um, for the project. Because these homes are energy efficient, they’re supporting the people that need them, new homes, fixed up homes. And this is the type of project we’ve done before in Blacksburg, and we should be doing it again all the time.”
