Transcript: Hey everybody — Pete Macedo, candidate for mayor and owner of Blacksburg Bagels, and your neighbor.

I wanted to give you a little clarification about the recount process.

Because the margin is less than half a percent, part of the recount is covered by the locality. But having a lawyer involved is really important to make sure we’re doing everything correctly.

There are certain things we have to do, like filing, serving folks, and making sure we’re identifying the people who will be observers and the poll workers participating in this.

We also have to be part of the planning meetings and actually be on site, so we can identify if there are issues with the count process that we should be challenging or questioning.

To do this, we’ve now found a lawyer, and there is a $15,000 retainer. So we’re trying to raise funds for that.

But please also see this as raising funds to help feed folks in our community, because everything extra that we raise will be donated to organizations in our community who are helping to feed people — which is really, really important to me.

So I hope you’ll consider contributing to the fund.
