Hey everybody — Pete Macedo, candidate for mayor, owner of Blacksburg Bagels, longtime resident, cool guy all around.
I just want to let you all know a little bit of an update.
The provisional ballots have been counted, and they went through a whole process at the Elections Board. [Yesterday] we went out and checked that out — where they go to see whether or not the provisional ballots, which are same-day registrations, will be accepted.
For the most part they will be, based on how the paperwork was filled out, where the location was, and all those different types of things.
With this count, I’m 18 votes down — but it’s not certified yet.
And it really got me thinking, because I’ve had newspapers, radio stations, and TV stations all reaching out to me asking whether I’d be requesting a recount.
And honestly, I’m okay if I don’t win this election. But the whole point of me running really is to make sure that your voice was heard.
So I’m considering doing a recount, because I think that might be the best way for us to really see what the decision truly is.
There are opportunities for errors in any system this big. We had over 11,000 people vote in this election, so I want to make sure that every vote — every voice — is heard correctly.
And so, yes: I am considering a recount.
I’ll see you next time.
