Statement Transcript:

“Hey, everybody. It’s Pete Macedo. I ran for mayor the past—I don’t know how many months—and yesterday was Election Day. It was so exciting to see so many people come out.

So many people! In fact, there were provisional ballots that were put in, which means that people were voting for the first time in the locations that they were. And so all that stuff needs to get checked.

So we still have more things to count. And I just wanted to say thank you to everybody who supported my campaign, who’s working the elections, who’s working the elections right now—still counting things up.

And this morning, I was remembering this fortune cookie that I got a long time ago. The fortune said: “Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”

So while we’re waiting for these votes to be counted up and decide who’s gonna be the next mayor of Blacksburg, go out and enjoy your town. Go out, enjoy Blacksburg.

It’s a beautiful place. It’s a beautiful day. I love it here. Go, have fun. And in maybe a week, we’ll figure out who’s mayor. I’ll see you next time.”
